Boss 2

BIG IDEA

Honoring authority is an act of faith.

MESSAGE NOTES:

WHAT:

Authority figure - anyone who (either by your choice or their position) influence the direction and quality of your life.

When it comes to your authority, have you seen more of what to do or more of what not to do?

SO WHAT:

What do I do if I don’t like nor respect my authority figure?

Because we have varying degrees of liking and respecting our authority figures, we also tend to have varying degrees of obedience, depending on the authority figure.

God establishes our authority figures.

The boss has the right and responsibility to bring correction and consequences.

NOW WHAT:

Levels of obeying authority:

  • Level 1/ Bare minimum to avoid punishment.

  • Level 2/ Clear conscience obedience.

  • Level 3/ Honoring authority.

A leader can give you every reason not to obey or honor him/her. But you only need one really good reason.

Honoring authority is an act of faith.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Q1: When it comes to your authority, have you seen more of what to do or more of what not to do?

Q2: Who do you respect the most in your life and in what ways do you show them your respect?

Q3: Can you think of a time where correction/punishment helped you learned something or change your future behavior?

Q4: What level of obedience do you give most authority in your life?

Q5: Do you have enough faith in the ultimate authority (God), to honor the authority in your life?
