BIG IDEA
Form soul sucking to life giving.
MESSAGE NOTES:
WHAT:
Matthew 22:37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
The soul is who you are, it’s what makes you you.
SO WHAT:
What is it about it that makes it so attractive to our very soul?
Romans 12:10 states that we should “Live in community… love each other.”
Social media is cheap community without any investment.
Leaving your soul in a place where you feel restlessness and loneliness.
2Corinthians 10:18 “To seek God’s approval, not mans or your own.”
Our souls were built to find our worth in Jesus, but social media can cause us to desire that approval from the wrong place.
NOW WHAT:
USE IT, DON’T LIVE IN IT.
Check your screen time. Have intentional face to face interaction. Don’t use your phone when you’re hanging out with people.
1 Corinthians 10:23 You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial.
Ask yourself “Is it wise?”
Our souls were built for community and God’s commendation and it is important that we seek the real thing, not a cheapened sense of it.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Q1: How do you feel after you spend a ton of time on your phone?
Q2: Where do you feel best in community on your phone or face to face? Why?
Q3: If you are being honest does social media affect your self worth / how you feel about yourself?
Q4: 1 Corinthians 10:23 says that just because you are allowed to do something doesn’t mean it is good for you. Do you agree or disagree and can you think of any other examples of this?
Q5: What boundaries can you put up around your phone so that you use it and don’t live in it?
