BIG IDEA
Jesus is Savior
MESSAGE NOTES:
WHAT:
It feels great to receive good news, doesn’t it?
Most good news isn't actually good news for everyone.
News that's good for everyone is pretty hard to come by.
SO WHAT:
Jesus is "good news."
Luke 2:9-11 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
Jesus didn’t become our Savior when He died. He was our Savior from the day He was born.
Jesus doesn’t just save us from something, Jesus saves for something too.
NOW WHAT:
Sometimes we use Jesus as a “get out of jail free card”.
If that’s the only thing we think about when we hear that Jesus is our Savior, we're missing the point.
Jesus came to seek and save the lost, not just so people would someday go to heaven when they die, but so that people’s lives would be changed right now, here on earth!'
Jesus didn't just come to help you with the things you have already done, but He came to help you with every big and little thing you could ever do.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Q1: Before today, what would you have said "Jesus is my Savior" means? Has your understanding of this changed at all today? If so, how?
Q2: Would you say Jesus has saved you? If so, what did He save you from and what has He saved you for?
Q3: Ephesians 2:8-9. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
What does this passage teach us about salvation?
Q4: In light of how Jesus has been good news to you, how can you be good news to the world?
