"Jesus Is" Week 3

BIG IDEA

Jesus is Truth

MESSAGE NOTES:

WHAT:

John 14:6 “ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”

If truth is a person...if Truth is Jesus and he is all things true then by very definition truth CANNOT be anything you and I want it to be.  Truth is by nature exclusive.

SO WHAT:

Feeling negative emotion is a good sign that we are not aligned with the Truth.

Feeling just a sense of unrest in your heart means it is a time to seek the Truth.

When God told me the truth about what I was thinking was true I felt lighter, I felt settled.

The second voice that is the voice of the Accuser...that is the voice of my enemy.

NOW WHAT:

I can choose to believe that Jesus is the Truth, or I can choose to believe the lie.

John 8:31-32 “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Jesus is not saying that if you tell the truth you won’t get in trouble... He is saying in John 14 I am the Truth..and then in John 8 Jesus says, the Truth will set you free... I will set you free.

The Enemy who is called a liar and a thief is trying to get you to believe.  Trying to get you to accept that lie as the Truth.  BUT IT ISN’T THE TRUTH

Submission is a choice..don’t choose to believe a lie.  Don’t let the if only’s let you believe a lie.  Jesus is Truth.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Q1: What do you think it means that Jesus is the truth?

Q2: How would you define "freedom"?

Q3: Has the truth of Jesus set you free from something? If so, what?

Q4: What do you think the voice of Truth is trying to tell you?

Q5: Psalm 25:5. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.

This week, how can we let God's truth guide us "all day long"?

ACTION STEP:

When you experience negative emotion this week; talk to the Lord about what lie could be causing that and ask Him what the Truth is.
