The Road To Easter

BIG IDEA

Easter is where Jesus saves and satisfies people.

MESSAGE NOTES:

WHAT:

Today is the start of a new kind of series. Instead of a weekly series that runs for the next month, we’re doing a daily series that runs all this week. This week leading up to Easter is traditionally known as the “Holy Week” or also known as the “Passion Week.”

Every day we’ll look at what Jesus did on the road to Easter.

Today is the day that Jesus came into Jerusalem and it was a big celebration moment.

SO WHAT:

'The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!" ' John 12:12-13

This is why today is called Palm Sunday. They laid palm tree branches down on the road for Jesus. They’re all chanting at Jesus “Hosanna, Hosanna” which translates to “Save now, save now.”

The people are not on the same page as Jesus. They don’t fully understand what Jesus is coming to “save now”.

What Jesus wants to “save now” is you and me.

NOW WHAT:

Easter is where Jesus saves and satisfies people.

Passionless living is a reminder you were made for more.

"If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.” -C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

How can Jesus satisfy?

1. Don’t ask him to save the world and skip you.

2. Worship where you are with what you have.

3. Make passion a daily devotion, not an inspired moment.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Q1: Why do you think the people went from yelling “save now” to “crucify him”?

Q2: How does it change the way you think of God, when Matt said that God isn’t here to save the world but He is hereto save you?

Q3: "If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.” -C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

What do you think of this quote? Do you relate to feeling unsatisfied in this world?

Q4: What can you do this week to commit to a daily devotion?
