Anthem 1

BIG IDEA

We worship with all of creation.

MESSAGE NOTES:

WHAT:

If we believe God created everything around us, then evidence of God is everywhere too. Like studying peoples’ creations can help us understand their creators, today we’ll explore how studying and experiencing God’s creation can actually help us better understand the God who made it. We’ll explore this by diving into the book of Psalms.

SO WHAT:

The psalmist tells us CREATION DECLARES GOD’S GLORY. Whether it’s the sky, the sea, the mountains, or the tiny details found in a single grain of sand, the created world reveals a glorious Creator.

The psalmist tells us CREATION PUTS THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE.

The psalmist tells us WE ARE KNOWN BY OUR CREATOR. God is all around us, at all times, and knows every detail of our lives. There is nowhere we can go where we can’t find evidence of our Creator.

!he psalmist tells us GOD IS REFLECTED IN CREATION — EVEN IN US.

NOW WHAT:

Whether you’re surrounded by mountains or buildings, trees or people, bird songs or car horns, it’s all a reflection of God, our Creator. If we’re paying attention to the world around us, we can see, hear, smell, touch, and taste just how big, beautiful, and well-designed God’s creation is.

  • When’s the last time you enjoyed God’s creation?

  • When’s the last time you told God thank you for it?

  • When’s the last time you considered how creation might be revealing God to you?

  • And when’s the last time you told God thank you for how wonderfully you’re made?

This week, what can you do to enjoy and reflect on what God has made? What can you do to say thank you? No matter how we worship, we worship God by saying “thank you” for the ways in which God’s image is reflected in us and in the world around us. Because God is a good Creator, we can worship with all of creation.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Q1: Would you rather never go outside again or never listen to music again, and why?

Q2: Have you ever felt moved/inspired by something beautiful, like music, art, or nature? What moved you/how?

Q3: What do you think it means to be made in the image of God?

Q4: Read Romans 1:20. What are some of the things God's creation reveals about who God is?

Q5: Which part of creation most reflects God's image to you? What's one way that aspect of creation can help you worship and connect with God?
