Galatians 6 Week 1

Join us at YX for our first week back as we begin picking apart Galatians 6 to learn how to help ourselves and others take responsibility for our pursuit of Jesus.

Big Idea

Take responsibility for your pursuit of Jesus, ask for help, and help others.

Key Verses

Galatians 6:1-5

1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. 4 Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, 5 for each one should carry their own load.

Romans 8:1-2

1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Matthew 7:4-5

4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Jr. High Questions

  1. What is your favorite sports team or who is your favorite athlete?

  2. Describe a time that you did something and feared that you might get in trouble with someone.

  3. Do you find it harder to be honest with yourself or with those around you? What makes that so difficult?

  4. Read Galatians 6:1-2 and Matthew 7:4-5. With Michael’s reference to planes and oxygen masks in mind, how can you better equip yourself to help restore a friend who is stuck in sin?

  5. In Galatians 6:1, the adjective “spiritual” means “living and walking according to the Holy Spirit.” This week, what do you need to do to improve your walk according to the Holy Spirit?
